Using SEMrush, you can start to identify the trends in your industry. If you are a contractor, you can see what people are actually searching for in Google and then use the information to drive customers to your website.
You can use SEMrush to build backlinks by looking at where your competitor’s backlinks are coming from. If these websites are willing to link to your competitors, they are likely to be willing to rank to you! If you are able to build a piece of content that is better than your competitor’s, you should reach out to the webmaster and let them know that you have a piece that is even better.
Do Keyword Research
One of the best parts of SEMrush is that you can use it to do your keyword research! Whether you are using it for search engine optimization or pay-per-click, SEMrush can help! If you are using it for SEO, just type in your keyword and you will see the search volume, keyword difficulty, keyword variations, questions, and related keywords.
These are all super useful tools that will help you craft your blog to drive traffic to your website. Ideally, your keyword would have a high search-volume and a low keyword difficulty. This is not always possible, but we suggest trying your best to target these types of keywords.
In addition to a helpful SEO tool, you can also use the CPC and competition tools to help you in PPC campaigns. It gives you an estimate of how much each click on your website will cost you and how competitive the keyword is.

Using the backlink analytics tool, you can see your domain authority, how many referring domains you have, your backlinks, and monthly visits. As you scroll down, you will see other data such as the categories of the referring domains, and the top anchors that they are using to link to your website.
The backlink audit will allow you to check your backlinks, investigate them, and then finally send a removal and disavow request. It just shows you all the backlinks that you have on your website.
Next is the link building tool where SEMrush allows you to set up a “project” and view A LOT of information. Within here, you can create domain prospects, integrate your email with the tool, and customize it anyway that you want.
Last, is the bulk backlink analysis tool where you can enter up to 200 URLs and see who is linking back to them. This will give you an idea of people to reach out to.
SEMrush has an entire section dedicated to local SEO. WIthin this section, you are able to

While we do not really use the manage your listing tool, it would be helpful if you wanted to make sure that your information was the same across all directories such as Google My Business, Yelp, YellowPages, and others.
The site audit section is the next section that we are going to talk about. In this report, they show you your overall site health, some errors, warnings, and notices, and then they break it down.
Last is the on page SEO checker. This tool will give you some ideas of how to improve your website. They provide strategy, backlink ideas, technical SEO ideas, and UI ideas.

The last feature that I am going to talk about today is the SEO content template. Here, you will be able to type in the keywords that you are trying to rank for. They will provide the top 10 websites that currently rank for this keyword. They then give you some
- Semantically related words
- Backlink ideas
- Text length
Next, SEMrush will show you how your top 10 competitors use the keyword that you are attempting to rank for. If you try to use them in similar ways, you may be able to beat out your competitors!
Last, they show you a few different basic recommendations. These recommendations are extremely important. They will give you ideas like make sure that your meta description is 160 characters, add your keyword in the H, and add your keyword at least once in your text.
SEMrush is an expensive tool, but you will likely see a good return on your money if used correctly. They have three different plans; Pro, Guru, and Business.

The last SEMrush alternative that we are going to talk about is Moz. This is the biggest local directory out there. Moz will allow you to create local listings on various local directories, do keyword research, look at your backlinks, and check out your domain authority.
